MORAGA, Calif. - After initially canceling all matches on Monday due to weather, the clouds parted late and several doubles matches were completed at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships. The Huskies had three doubles teams remaining in the quarterfinals, but none were able to make the final, wrapping up the week for the Dawgs at St. Mary's.
Washington went head-to-head on three courts with California in the quarterfinals of doubles play. Sophomore Emmett Egger and junior Max Manthou earned an 8-5 win over Cal's Scholnick and Bayane, but the Bears won the other two quarters. Kyle McMorrow and Marton Bots came up a couple points short in a tiebreaker against Cal's Johnson and Engsted, losing 9-8 (7-5), and sophomores Jeff Hawke and Viktor Farkas lost, 8-1, to Ben and Riki McLachlan.
In the semis, it was another Husky-Bear meeting, but the McLachlan brothers earned a close 8-6 win for Cal over Egger and Manthou.
Washington will practice this week before opening up the Nordstrom Tennis Center in two weeks for the PNW Intercollegiates, held Nov. 2-4.
