Seattle - Entering Sunday's event, the 23rd-ranked Washington women's gymnastics team had never beaten Utah in 27 previous meetings. Thanks to a senior Mandi Klug's perfect score on floor exercise, the Huskies managed to tie the third-ranked Utes with matching scores of 196.725. Western Michigan finished third in the meet with a score of 194.075. Washington's record now stands at 10-5-1, while Utah is 8-1-1.

The Huskies trailed Utah 147.625 to 147.225 entering the meet's final rotation. Washington got floor scores of 9.850 from Molly Seaman, a 9.875 from Amy Metcalf, a 9.900 from Stacy Wong and a 9.875 from Lanna Apisukh before Klug performed. Her 10 was only the sixth in Washington history and helped the Huskies to set a team record on floor exercise with a score of 49.500. Washington opened the meet with a school record score of 49.400 on vault. Utah, in its final rotation, scored 49.100 on vault.

"Utah had already finished on vault and we knew that Mandi would need a 10 to get us the tie," said Husky coach Bob Levesque. "She had been very, very close to a perfect routine the past few weeks, so I knew she was capable of getting that type of score."

Klug joins former Husky Tiffany Simpson as the only Washington gymnast to record a 10 on floor exercise. Simpson turned in three 10 scores during her career from 1996 to 2000.

Klug was one of two Huskies to win events for Washington. Junior Stacy Wong set a career high on vault with a score of 9.975 to grab top honors in that event. Wong also won the all-around competition for the second straight week with a score of 39.650, just .05 off of her school-record score she had against Oregon State. Utah's Theresa Kulikowski won the bars with a score of 9.925 while the Utes Shannon Bowles took home first place on beam with a score of 9.950.

"I've never been involved in a tie before," Levesque says. "On one hand you think about things like counting a fall on bars, that could have made a difference towards a victory. But, Utah could say the same thing. They had to count a fall and had two gymnasts step out on floor. As young as our team is, this is a great day for us. I'm especially happy for Mandi, to score a 10 in her final home meet."

A week after setting 16 career best marks in an upset of 19th-ranked Oregon State, Washington saw 12 personal best marks set or tied in Sunday's meet. The Huskies' next meet is at Boise State on March 10.
