STANFORD, Calif. - The Stanford baseball used a pair of back-to-back homers in the second inning to take a big lead and went on to beat Washington, 12-2, in the deciding game of a three-game, Pac-12 series Sunday at Sunken Diamond.
Stanford starter John Hochstatter (2-1) pitched the full nine innings for the win, allowing two runs on seven hits. Husky starter Trevor Dunlap (1-3) took the loss, surrendering six runs in his inning and a third.
Washington's Michael Camporeale, who had four RBI in Saturday's Husky win, hit his third home run of the week and was 3-for-3 to lead the Huskies.
Stanford (19-11 overall, 7-5 in the Pac-12) initially took the lead in the first when, with two outs, Brian Ragira singled, took second on a wild pitch and scored on a single from Austin Wilson.
In the second, Cardinal shortstop Lonnie Kauppila drove in a run with a double and scored on a Justin Ringo single. Wayne Taylor then hit a two-run homer to right to make it a 5-0 lead. Ragira followed with a homer of his own, but the Cardinal weren't done as Danny Diekroeger tripled and scored on a Brant Whiting single cap the six-run outburst.
In the fourth, Stanford added two more on a bases-loaded single from catcher Brant Whiting.
Washington (9-24 overall, 4-8 Pac-12) got on the board in the fifth as singles from Camporeale and Trevor Mitsui, then a walk to Joe Meggs, loaded the bases. A force at second on a grounder from Braden Bishop brought home Camporeale for the first Husky run.
In the bottom of the fifth, Ringo hit a two-run homer for the Cardinal to stretch the lead to 11-1. Camporeale hit a solo homer, his third of the season and third of the week, in the seventh to cut it to 11-2.
Diekroeger drove in a run with a two-out single in the eighth inning to cap the Cardinal's scoring.
Ragira and Diekroeger each had three hits while Whiting and Ringo drove in three runs apiece.
The Huskies return home for the coming week. Tuesday night, the Dawgs take on Seattle University at Husky Ballpark. This weekend, Oregon State visits for a three-game series.
