CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. - Bryana Walker and the No. 22/22 Husky softball team capped a great weekend at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic with a 14-2 victory over No. 13/16 Georgia.
The Bulldogs were the second ranked team the Huskies had beaten over the weekend and the highest ranked team of the season.
This tournament was somewhat of a homecoming for Walker, a junior out of nearby La, Quinta, Calif. She went 3-0 on the weekend with a 0.43 ERA, 28 strikeouts and allowed just one earned run.
Against Georgia, Walker gave up just four hits and eight strikeouts in the complete game. Both Georgia runs were unearned.
Washington had 15 hits in the game including a team-high three from junior Kaitlin Inglesby who also contributed five RBI. In the sixth, Inglesby hit her first career grand slam and the first by a Husky on the season.
In the first inning the Huskies put up four runs, added five in the sixth and five more in the seventh. Both of Georgia's runs came off of two Husky errors in the third.
Victoria Hayward, Jennie McNeill, Kylee Lahners and Kimberlee Souza had two hits each and Missy Taukeiaho, Shawna Wright and Marki Creger-Zier each had one, respectively.
Morgan Montemayor pitched the entire game for Georgia, allowed 13 earned runs and falling to 3-4 on the year. Georgia falls to 7-6 on the season and lost three-straight in the tournament to end the weekend.
The Huskies will play their first game in Seattle next week, although away, at Seattle U on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m.
