No. 14/13 Washington 3,
TEMPE, Ariz. - The hot streak continues for the No. 14/13 UW softball team as the Huskies (32-10, 10-3) knocked off No. 2/2 Arizona State (36-7, 7-3) in Tempe, Ariz., 3-1 on Friday night live on the Pac-12 Networks.
It was just the second loss at home for the Sun Devils on the year and the first of the year for ASU's starting pitcher, Mackenzie Popescue (16-1).
Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) continued to be a force in the circle for the Huskies. After five wins last week she pitched the complete game to improve to 17-4 on the year and help Washington to an eight-game winning streak.
Inglesby allowed just one run in the sixth on eight hits and struck out six Sun Devils.
Senior Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) led the Huskies at the plate with two of the five team hits.
Back-to-back two out doubles in the top of the second by Kylee Lahners (Laguna Hills, Calif.) and Wright gave the UW a 1-0 lead.
ASU tied the game in the third on a single up the middle by Amber Freeman after a Cheyenne Coyle double.
Washington got the game-winner in the sixth as junior Missy Taukeiaho (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.).
The Huskies got an insurance run in the seventh after a single by Wright and pinch runner Marki Creger-Zier (Steilacoom, Wash.) scored on an ASU error.
Game two of the series will air live on ESPN2 on Saturday at 7 p.m. PT.
