Former Husky Ventoza Named Head Coach At Cal State Stanislaus

Former Husky and NCAA Champion, Jessica Ventoza has been named the next head coach of the Cal State Stanislaus softball program in Turlock, Calif. Ventoza was a member of the 2009 NCAA Championship team and was a two-year letter-winner for the Huskies.

Senior starters Kylee Lahners, Kelli Suguro and Kasey Stanchek refused to let this be their last game as Lahners and Suguro both went yard and Stanchek allowed just one run in a complete game effort to help propel the Huskies to a 9-1 (5) run-rule victory over USC Upstate. With the win, the Huskies advance to play Alabama in the regional final tomorrow at 10 a.m. PT.

No. 6 Alabama used a pair of four-run innings to beat the Huskies 9-0 (5) and hand Washington its first loss in the 2015 NCAA Tournament. Washington will play the winner of Fairfield and USC Upstate today at 1 p.m. PT to keep their season alive.

Washington posted double-digit hits for the 31st time this season and senior pitcher Kasey Stanchek gave up just two hits in seven innings worked to propel the Huskies to a 4-1 victory over USC Upstate to open the 2015 NCAA Softball Tuscaloosa Regional being held at Rhoads Stadium on Friday afternoon.

"It's good to get the first one out of the way. We played a great team in USC Upstate and faced a great pitcher in Lexi Shubert. I was happy with our ability to score early off of her and do what we needed to do. We didn't get a couple of the big hits I thought we could have got. We played okay on defense.
